Murphy eager to progress

Carlow midfielder Brendan Murphy is eager for a prolonged run in the Leinster under-21 championship as the Barrowsiders prepare to face Offaly at the weekend.

There are big things expected from the young scallion eaters this Saturday as they travel north to Tullamore where they will face the home side in the first round.

Murphy knows that they will face a tough test, but he feels that Carlow have the players to record a win and go on and do well in the campaign.

"Everything has pressure. Because we got to the minor final everyone thinks we'll be in the Leinster final again," said Murphy. "I think we're a better team now.

"Look at that team from the minors we have Daniel St Ledger and Shane Redmond, who have been playing senior county football a few years now.

"We've been talking about it. We believe we're good enough to get to the final again, but they have serious footballers in Offaly."
