Late jockey was former Carlow minor

February 17, 2010
Jockey Ronan Lawlor, who lost his life in an accident yesterday, played on the Carlow minor football side that reached the 2007 Leinster final.

The 21-year fell from a horse at trainer Pat Fahy's yard on Tuesday morning and collided with a wooden fence stake.

Ronan was a talented sportsman and played with the Michael Davitt's club at juvenile level before coming to the attention of the county selectors.

In 2007 Carlow lost out in the first round of the Leinster MFC but got back on track by defeating Meath in the back door system. Ronan scored 1-2 against the Royals that day and Carlow went on to beat Wexford, Westmeath and Louth, before unluckily losing to Laois in the final on a 1-12 to 3-8 scoreline.

Ronan played with Leighlinbridge at adult level and was a regular member of thier team last season.
