Carlow seek earlier throw-in
June 23, 2009
The Carlow county board has applied to Croke Park for their All-Ireland football qualifier against Donegal in Ballybofey on July 4 to be given an afternoon slot.
It follows yesterday's announcement by the GAA that all of the first round qualifier ties will have 7pm throw-ins. But Carlow chairman Pat Deering feels the timing is unfair on fans who wouldn't arrive home until well after midnight.
"It wouldn't make sense," he said.
"It would mean the team would have to travel overnight. It would be an absolute disaster for supporters. The draw wasn't kind to us and the time is even worse."
Carlow supporters face a 600km round-trip to the game.
