Dempsey to discipline Hayden
May 18, 2009
Carlow manager Luke Dempsey could drop centre forward Derek Hayden from his squad following his dismissal in yesterday's Leinster SFC first round defeat to Louth.
The Eire Og clubman went straight to the dressing-room after being sent off by Westmeath referee Pat Fox on a second yellow card midway through the second half of Carlow's 1-11 to 1-13 defeat.
"It (the sending off) is very disappointing with Derek Hayden - he was sent off in the league for the same offence. I'd say it was for verbal abuse of the referee," Dempsey said.
"That and the fact that he didn't come over to his own players is indiscipline, and I won't tolerate it. I'll address that as soon as we go back."
Despite his side's loss, Dempsey praised his players for their never-say-die attitude.
"We fought so gallantly and so bravely that if we hadn't conceded the goal, we might have won, but that's championship football.
"Louth were the more physical team, and they were better at taking their scores from long distance, and some of their scores were excellent."
