Bealin declares interest in Dubs post

Carlow manager Paul Bealin
Paul Bealin has declared his interest in becoming the next Dublin football manager after parting company with Carlow.
Bealin spent just one year in charge of the Barrowsiders, during which they suffered a humiliating Leinster championship defeat to Meath, but the 1995 All-Ireland winner insists that it was work commitments, and not poor results, which forced him to step down.
"I am working and based in Dublin and would be very familiar with Dublin football," said the Ballyboden St. Enda's clubman, who previously managed Wexford.
"Obviously, I'd love an opportunity to manage Dublin at some stage. It would be a great honour and if I was asked to meet the county board, I would do so."
Commenting on his brief Carlow tenure, Bealin said: "I enjoyed my time in Carlow and I see a good future for them but unfortunately my work programme at the moment just doesn't allow me to give the necessary commitment down there.
"I am involved in a lighting business which is very busy right now, and I'm based in Dublin so it wouldn't be fair on Carlow for me to continue if I couldn't give 100 per cent to them.
"I met with county board officials on Monday night and they fully understand my position. I'd like to thank them and the Friends of Carlow for their support over the last year."
Despite the heavy defeat to Meath and the subsequent loss to Antrim in the Tommy Murphy Cup, Bealin feels he made progress with the Barrowsiders, who must now began the search for their seventh manager in four years.
"Overall, I felt we made progress in Carlow. We started well in the O'Byrne Cup, beating Kilkenny and Wexford and then going to a replay with Dublin.
"We also won four league games compared to one the previous year so progress was being made."
