St Mullins booked their place in the semi final of the championship as winners of the group when they beat Ballinkillen last Saturday evening at McGrath Park Bagenalstown. St Mullins began took the lead with a Seamus Murphy point in the third minute and never went behind in the game. Ballinkillen did level in the sixth minute but never got as near after this. Paudie Kehoe scored 1-2 from frees in the space of four minutes which put St Mullins in complete control of the game. Patrick Walsh and Seamus Murphy added a point each before paudie Kehoe scored a point deep into injury time to leave the score 1-6 to 0-3 at half time. The second half was a much tenser and tighter affair with Ballinkillen really putting it up to St Mullins. We found it hard to get scores and thankfully Ballinkillen also found it hard to convert most of their chances. They closed the gap to four points on two occasions but our first half goal kept breathing space between the teams throughout the half. Paudie Kehoe pointed two frees, Pat Coady scored two points from play while Seamus Murphy scored his third of the game to leave the final score 1-11 to 0-9. Darren Whelan and John Doran were very good in defence, Michael Nolan won a lot of ball at midfield while Seamus Murphy and Paudie Kehoe were constant threats in the attack. Team: Mark Ryan, Thomas Coady, Tom doyle, Darren Whelan, John Doran, Paul Kehoe, Cathal Ryan, Michael Nolan, John Murphy, Patrick Walsh 0-1, Pat Coady 0-2, Shaun Gahan, Jack Kavanagh, Seamus Murphy 0-3, Paudie Kehoe 1-5 (frees). Subs: Declan Murphy for jack Kavanagh and Michael Kehoe for Cathal Ryan. This win leaves us finishing on top of the table which means we now play fourth placed Naomh Brid in the semi final. This will be on next Sunday at 2.15pm in Dr Cullen Park and will be followed by Myshall and Mount Leinster Rangers in the other semi final at 4pm. Club shop is open every Tuesday from 7.30 to 8.30. There will be a club meeting on Tuesday 30th September at 9pm.
