U21HC 'B': Historic win for Carlow hurlers

September 13, 2008
Carlow captured their first All-Ireland U21 B Hurling title at Nenagh when they recorded a comfortable 2-14 to 0-7 win over Kerry. The midlanders were the better team for most of the game but it was a strong final quarter display which ultimately sealed their victory. Playing against the elements in the first half, the winners-elect posted notice of their intentions by easing their way into a 0-5 to 0-4 interval lead with Richard Coady and Cian Clancy dividing the scores between them. Kerry were sluggish in the opening moiety but points from James Flaherty helped keep the Kingdom in touch. It was nip and tuck the third quarter but the last 15 minutes was a different story as Carlow held their opponents to just a single point. The Leinster lads upped the ante thereafter with goals from Eoin Minchin and top scorer Clancy to ensure an historic triumph.
