St Mullins reignited their quest for the Senior Hurling Title when they beat Erin's Own in Eire Og last Wednesday. Erin's Own were fancied having beaten Naomh Eoin in the last round and this caused St Mullins to be cautious going into the game. Erin's Own started with a point but St Mullins replied in excellent fashion with 2-2 in the first ten minutes, a goal each from Paudie Kehoe and Seamus Murphy. Both scored another goal each later in the half to leave it 4-3 to 1-4 at the break. Erin's Own's goal coming right before the half time whistle. St Mullins held out in the second half to much stronger pressure from the Bagenalstown men and managed ten points of their own. Final Score was 4-13 to 2-9. Best for St Mullins were Darren Whelan and Cathal Ryan in Defence, Paudie Kehoe and Shaun Gahan in attack with John Murphy excellent at midfield. St Mullins play Naohm Eoin in their next game in McGrath Park on Thursday 28th August at 7pm The Footballers reignited their championship hopes in less successful fashion losing 2-10 to 0-3 to reigning County Champions Eire Og. This was a tough game against a side who are totally committed to football. Carrying some injuries into the game St Mullins found it hard to score despite the best efforts of Sean Murphy and Thomas Coady in defence. They recorded their first win of the year a week late however when they beat Fenagh in a fixture doubling as league and championship. Botrh teams were hugely up for this as neither had won a game previously and St Mullins looked the hungrier throughout. They led 0-7 to 0-2 at the break but realistically should have been about 3-10 up. Fenagh scored a goal in the third minute if the second half and looked as if they were staging a comeback but St Mullins held firm and thanks to Declan Murphy's goal ran out winners 1-12 to 1-5. Best were the two Murphy's, John and Seamus, and Declan Murphy and Paudie Kehoe. They now play St Andrew's next Sunday at 6.45pm in Mcgrath Park. The minors lost to MLR in the championship 2-11 to 2-5 but still have hopes of making a semi final with one game left against Naomh Eoin. Club Meeting Tuesday 2nd September at 9pm.
