Carlow's promotion bid remains very much on course after they registered an eight point victory over neighbours Wicklow in Netwatch Cullen Park this evening.

Paul Broderick was a constant thorn in the side of the Garden County and finished with 1-7 to his name as the Barrowsiders scored a 1-17 to 0-12 success.

Jordan Morrissey opened the scoring for Turlough O'Brien's side and Broderick's goal arrived in the 21st minute.

As a result, the hosts led by 1-8 to 0-7 at the halfway stage and they subsequently outscored their opponents by 0-9 to 0-5 after the restart.

The Wicklow challenge suffered a major set-back when Dean Healy was shown a red card and the result leaves John Evans' side with just two points to show for their efforts in the five rounds to date.

Carlow, on the other hand, are proudly perched at the top of the table with a maximum 10 points and will secure promotion to Division 3 if they can continue their winning ways against Antrim in Ahoghill next Sunday.
