Carlow 2-11

Leitrim 0-5

Captain John Murphy netted early in each half as Carlow made it three wins from three in Division 4 of the Allianz Football League at the expense of Leitrim at a wet and windy Netwatch Cullen Park.

The win moves the Barrowsiders two points clear at the top of the division, although they could be joined there by neighbours Laois if they beat Waterford later this evening.

Turlough O'Brien's men stormed into a 1-3 to 0-0 lead inside the first nine minutes thanks to points from Darragh Foley, Sean Murphy and Paul Broderick, and a goal from a John Murphy penalty. Leitrim battled back and when Keith Beirne sent over a free in the 32nd minute, the margin was down to three points, 0-4 to 1-4. But Brendan Murphy had the final say of the first half to leave the hosts four in front at the break.

Leitrim could only add a single point to their tally in the second half as Murphy's second goal propelled Carlow into a 2-8 to 0-4 lead after 42 minutes. The visitors' misery was compounded by the late dismissal of Noel Plunkett.
