Kilkenny and Galway square in off in National League Final

April 25, 2008
Kilkenny and Galway meet in the Division 1 Final of the National Camogie League on Saturday 26th April in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny. Having dispatched of League Champions Cork and All-Ireland Champions Wexford, as well as Dublin in Group 2 of the National Camogie League, Kilkenny go into Saturday's Final full of confidence. Sinéad Millea has been the main threat for Kilkenny throughout the League. The Brigid's Ballycallan clubwoman proved the difference in the vital wins over Dublin and Cork. Millea contributed 1-6 in a three point victory over the Dubs and also finished the game as top scorer against Cork scoring 6 of Kilkenny's 7 points. Kilkenny manager, Ann Downey, is proud of her team's performances so far: "We're delighted to be where we are and to be honest with ourselves we didn't expect to do as well as we did but we've trained hard and we feel we deserve to be where we are. The 12-time All-Ireland Champion believes that her team faces a stern test against the Connaught side, "Galway are a very strong, physical side who are well able to put the scores over. They have players like Veronica Curtin and Jessica Gill who are strong on the ball who can punish mistakes with scores. Kilkenny have players that can do the same so both teams will have to play above themselves for the win." Galway emerged from Group 1 also boasting a 100% record. They saw off the challenge of newcomers Limerick, as well as the 2004 League and Championship winners, Tipperary. Galway have been in free scoring form in their two games so far having amassed an impressive 5-21 in their two group games, with 2007 All-Star Veronica Curtin contributing 2-9 to that total. Galway captain, Sinead Cahalan, recognises the importance of form going into a final: "Wins, be it league games or challenge games, make a massive difference to a team's form going into a final. We had two big wins in the League and we're right up for the final. We're under no illusions though; Saturday is going to be a huge battle. We're training hard and playing hard and everybody is just looking forward to the game now. The National Camogie League Division 2 Final also takes place on Sunday with a replay of the 2007 All-Ireland Junior Final. Clare will hope to make up for a last minute loss to Derry in Croke Park when the two sides meet again. The Camogie National League Division 1 Final takes place in Nowlan Park Kilkenny on Saturday with throw in at 3:00pm. Throw in for the Division 2 Final is set for 3.30pm at the Naomh Peregrine Grounds in Dublin
