Fr. Murphy's & London Ladies Senior Football Championship w/e June 7th.
The second round of the championship took place this weekend, with the entry of John Mitchells of Liverpool, who had won the British Junior championship for the last two years, they made a fabolous start to their campaign beating last years London finalists Tara on a scoreline of 3-14 to 3-01.This game was played in Manchester.Fr Murphy's the defending champions, continued their winning ways, with a 3-13 to 1-06 win against arch rivals Parnell's in Greenford.Although Parnells opened the scoring with a point,The girls in purple and gold, then went on to produce a stunning performance, points from Jackie Shiels (3) and Shauna Keogh had them ahead at half time on a score of 6 points to 3.Again Parnells opened the scoring in the second half, but then Narelle Saward from Brisbane, scored a great point,then Shauna Keogh hit a a goal and a point, just after Teisha Dex, another of the Brisbane trio Fielded a ball on the twentyone and slipped a delighful shot to the Parnell's net, not to be outdone Natty Hughes, who was having a stormer at corner back, soloed up the field and a great chip again found the net.Teisha Dex, then came to a ball and sent a blistering shot at goal which Parnells keeper Jackie McCowan brilliantly saved, in fact she made four such saves to keep the scoreline respectable.Parnells then got a penalty which Hannah Noonan expertly blasted to the Fr Murphy's net, but the Niamh Keane, the champions captain sent over a point, to leave Murphy's winners by 3-13 to 1-06Later that day Fr Murphys lined out in the junior camogie championship, with 6 of the panel that had helped the footballers earlier, the faced red hot championship favourites Tara's and what a shock they produced.Points from Emma Taylor and Claire Towey, had them ahead, but Tara's fought back with two of their own, but this Murphy's club have a never say die attitude and from here on in they were to dominate the game , they produced a goal alvalanche, with Anne Marie Keogh blasting the first, Claire Towey a second and then Emma Taylor a third, leaving the score at the break 3.02 to 0.02 in the Murphy's favour.The second half started and Tara through everything at them but the backs especially Anne Marie Keogh and Jackie Shiels were magnificent, Sinead Kirk and Jade Oneill scrapped for everything and hurled with great style around the centre of the field. While Tara's got one goal back, Fr Murphy's held our for a 3-03 to 1-02 win.A great day for the purple and gold."
