McDonnell: Wexford won't regard our reputation

Armagh boss Peter McDonnell
Armagh boss Peter McDonnell has stressed that Wexford will be showing no regard for Armagh's reputation when the two sides clash in this Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final. The Mullaghbawn clubman points out that the Model County went in with that attitude against Down last weekend and there's no reason to think that they won't be doing the same this time around at Croke Park. "Everyone knows what Down's record in Croke Park is like but Wexford had no regard for that a certainly they will have no regard for ours on Saturday," confirmed McDonnell. McDonnell has been impressed with the way Jason Ryan's charges have bounced back from their drubbing in this year's Leinster final at the hands of Dublin and admits that their physicality may be a cause for concern for his team. "They could have quite easily given up the ghost after the Leinster final but they responded in a short period of time. Wexford made all the openings, they are a big physical team and they subdued a strong Down midfield." The Orchard County will play their first match of the year at Croke Park when they step out onto the playing field at 2.00pm, and McDonnell admits that he could not be happier with the timing of their 'biggest match of the year'. "We had lobbied for it but not to be pushed to a provincial venue and I am happy that we have secured Croke Park. I am also happy with the timing of it, two weeks is adequate enough between games. "Armagh went out at this stage to Kerry two years ago. This is the biggest match of the year for us and we have to be right for it."
