McGrane recalls the early days
August 06, 2008
Armagh skipper Paul McGrane may have a medal collection that is the envy of many Gaelic footballers, but the experienced midfielder still recalls the barren times with the Orchard County.
McGrane will lead the side into action against Wexford on Saturday afternoon as the Ulster side prepare for yet another All-Ireland quarterfinal.
However, it was not always the same for Armagh as McGrane points out to the fact that for many years after he made the breakthrough in 1993, the county got hard to with an Ulster championship match.
"When we started out in '93 as we were looking for was an Ulster championship win, but we never got near an Ulster title back then," said McGrane.
"Championship wins were very hard to come by. That's what stood to us. When there is a chance you appreciate a championship win. We're very thankful for all that happened since those days, but ultimately we're still trying to do the same thing every time we play - to win a championship match."
