McDonnell sees room for improvement

Armagh manager Peter McDonnell reckons his team have "failed to deliver" so far this season, despite regaining the Ulster SFC title last Sunday week. The Mullaghbawn man insists that the Orchard County must show "huge improvement" if they are to overcome Wexford in Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final at Croke Park. He said: "From the very outset of this year's campaign, Armagh have been labelled as favourites for every encounter - I suspect that we will be assigned the same label for the next encounter. "But we haven't put any team away this year. It can be argued that we've struggled from the first round right through to where we're at now. Yes, we have promised much on occasions - and failed to deliver. "We're obviously still in the championship, but there's room for huge improvement within our team. That remains our sole focus. We have no right to take anybody for granted." The primary school principal is anticipating a tough battle with the Slaneysiders, who bounced back in impressive fashion from their Leinster SFC final drubbing to shock Down last weekend. "Wexford have beaten Fermanagh, albeit in similar circumstances to ourselves, and they also accounted for Down, who, it could be argued, should have got something out of their game with us. "So we're certainly not taking them lightly because of those performances."
