McDonnell: We answered our critics

July 28, 2008
Armagh boss Peter McDonnell believes that his side firmly answered their critics after Sunday's Ulster SFC triumph over Fermanagh. McDonnell's side had let an eight-point lead slip against the Ernesiders in the drawn game last Sunday week at Clones and came under fire for their second-half performance, but the Mullaghbawn man believes that added an extra incentive for the Orchard County going into Sunday's replay. "Where we lost out last week was an area that asks questions of, I suppose, about masculinity, and that is breaking ball. That was a big insult to our footballers last week, that we were prepared to concede so much of it," said McDonnell. "There inlay the challenge ahead of us for this week. That is what we tackled. That is what we dealt with and that gave us the platform to go ahead and win this game." After the full-time whistle on Sunday, McDonnell was full of praise for all involved with the panel and especially to the players, who he believed answered many questions on the day. "We are absolutely delighted and I am so proud of all the players, all backroom staff, who have put everything into this," said McDonnell. "Fellas could quite easily have given up the ghost after last week. But they looked at themselves very closely this week, reflected and answered their critics which were many last week."
