McDonnell eager to complete the job

Armagh sharpshooter Steven McDonnell believes the Orchard County need to be more ruthless if they are to get the better of Fermanagh in Sunday's Ulster SFC final replay. McDonnell was disappointed that Armagh didn't close the deal after holding an eight-point lead in last weekend's drawn encounter, and admits that lessons need to be learned ahead of the replay. "We knew Fermanagh would fight until the end and they proved again that they are a hard-working team. When we went eight points up, I suppose we felt we had the game won," said the All-Star corner back who scored 0-6 (0-5 from play). "We sat back instead of driving on. "That is something we have to look at for next week. If we do get any kind of a lead, we have to drive it on. "We have lost leads before, but we haven't lost an eight-point lead. That is something we have to learn from but we have enough experienced players to come back Sunday and hopefully get the job done." Armagh have an excellent record in replays, having won five in succession between 2002 and 2006, but McDonnell doesn't believe this will count for much at the weekend. "Our replay record is good, but you have to look forward. You are only as good as your next game and we know that the replay will be a tough battle that will go down to the wire," he added.
