David Bentley in the 'Cross' colours

Oisin McConville has described David Bentley as a 'natural'.

The former England soccer international trained twice with Crossmaglen Rangers and scored three points in a challenge against neighbours Silverbridge this week as part of the TV3 documentary, 'The Toughest Trade', which sees him swap places with Aaron Kernan.

Bentley retired from professional soccer at the age of just 29 last year and Cross' joint-manager McConville admitted to the Irish News that he wouldn't mind having him for the Armagh SFC later this year.

"He's a professional athlete and it came naturally to him," he said.

"If he went through pre-season and played a couple of league matches, he'd be ready for championship. It would take him a bit of time, but you could see it… He was pretty natural at it, a brilliant striker of the ball.

"He has decent hands, obviously he wouldn't be used to the pressure he'd be under to catch a ball, but generally speaking I thought he was excellent. He was a breath of fresh air to be honest to have about the place."
