Dyas: McGeeney isn't 'flogging us'

Kevin Dyas has rubbished reports that new Armagh manager Kieran McGeeney is placing undue demands on his players.

RTE pundit Joe Brolly recently claimed that five Crossmaglen players had opted out of the squad because the training regime was too much for them. But this was flatly denied by Dyas at the launch of the GPA's annual report in Dublin yesterday.

"There's this perception that 'Geezer' is flogging us every day of the week or every day of the month, that he's ruthless with lads if they can't make training," the former Aussie Rules recruit said.

"I'm working in here now (at PwC in Dublin) and he's been more than accommodating if I can't make training because of work. It's absolutely no problem. I know he's the same with lads working in Belfast or some of the lads with kids.

"There's never any issue with not being at training."

Dyas insisted that the training Armagh are doing under McGeeney is no different to any other county with collective sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays being supplemented by gym work on other week days.

"There's been a lot of reports going around about all sorts of crazy training," he added.

"I was just saying to a couple of lads there that it's not much different to what we've done before. People were saying to me that we were doing early morning sessions and this and that, but my alarm clock hasn't been going off at six o'clock in the morning.

"I don't know where people are getting these rumours from. It's just the usual training schedule that most county teams would have, I imagine."
