Belmullet make no mistake second time around

Our Lady's Belmullet produced a devastating performance to defeat St Joseph's Crossmaglen in the Rice Cup final replay, much to the delight of team captain Tommy Conroy.

The Mayo school recorded a 5-10 to 2-04 victory to secure the title at Markievicz Park last weekend after the sides had played out a dogged draw the first day.

However Belmullet cut loose in the replay and there were leaders all over the field, but none more so than their skipped who finished the match with 2-02 to his credit.

"This is massive for the school, especially on the back of last year and winning and All-Ireland (minor) with Mayo," Conroy told the Western People.

"A few things didn't go right for us the first day, we had great possession for most of that game just like we did in the replay, but there was a bad wind and we racked up 20 wides to their five.

"We knew coming up to the replay that we would have to take our chances and that if we took those that we'd be there or thereabouts."
