McKenna Cup: Orchard exact revenge on students

January 16, 2012
Armagh registered their first win of the year at St. Mary's expense at the Morgan Athletic Grounds and, in doing so, avenged last year's shock defeat to the same opposition.

Armagh 1-18
St. Mary's, Belfast 0-10

As the scoreline suggests, this was a comfortable victory for the home side who were never troubled after Ryan Rafferty's goal in the 10th minute. Paddy O'Rourke's charges went on to lead by 1-11 to 0-3 at half-time with Stefan Forker and impressive midfielder John Kingham helping themselves to 0-3 and 0-2 respectively. St. Mary's, who trailed by 0-2 to 0-3 before Rafferty's strike, could only muster one other first half point from a Niall Morgan free in the 14th minute.

The students enjoyed their best spell after the restart when substitute Thomas Canavan caught the eye with three well-taken points, but Armagh were never seriously threatened and closed out the game with scores from Forker, Paul Duffy, Pauric Gribben and Paul Carville.
