Kernan to call time on Galway reign

Galway football manager Joe Kernan
Joe Kernan's brief reign as Galway football manager is expected to end tonight.
The Armagh legend is believed to have forwarded a letter of resignation to the Galway football board officials ahead of this evening's meeting of the board in Loughgeorge.
Kernan was unavailable for comment last night, but a statement from Galway football board said the matter would be raised this evening.
"At our last meeting we gave an undertaking to the clubs that we were going to review the situation with the manager. We have done that and we will be reporting back tomorrow night at our meeting with the clubs," the statement read.
Kernan met with officials last week to review what proved to be a hugely disappointing season for the Tribesmen. His appointment last September immediately heightened expectations in the county, but after a NFL Division 1 campaign which saw them flirt with relegation, Galway almost suffered an embarrassing defeat to New York in their Connacht SFC opener before losing to Sligo after a replay.
And worse was to follow a week later when Wexford dumped them out of the championship after a one-point win in Pearse Stadium.
Former All-Ireland winning midfielder Kevin Walsh, who has transformed Sligo's fortunes over the past two years, is favourite to succeed Kernan, while Gerry Fahy - who has led the Galway minors to an All-Ireland semi-final appearance - could also be in the frame.
