Ulster MFC: Armagh edge into decider
July 04, 2010
Armagh 1-10
Cavan 0-11
Peter Carragher's goal edged Armagh past Cavan and into this year's ESB Ulster Minor Football Championship final at Clones.
The young Orchard men needed to dig deep to shake-off a brave Cavan side which were desperate to end their county's title drought at this level and it was Carragher's three-pointer with ten minutes left that saved the day for the All-Ireland champions.
Cavan settled into the game nicely as frees from Jack Brady saw them establish an early two-point lead. The same player eventually stretched the advantage to three before Armagh came roaring back into the game midway through the half with points from Barry Seeley and Michael McKenna to tie things up at 0-6 each come half-time.
Ten minutes into the second-half Cavan were reduced to 14 men when attacker Andrew Dewart picked up a second yellow and Armagh took the lead for the first time through another Seeley free.
The Breffni side levelled, but when a Seeley free dropped short for Carragher to punch to the net Armagh's place in the final alongside Tyrone was confirmed.
