Ulster MHC: Armagh book historic final spot

June 13, 2010
Armagh 0-13
Down 0-9

Armagh qualified for their first ESB Ulster MHC final since 1965 when they had four points to spare over Down in the semi-final at Casement Park.

The Ulster League winners were never headed after they took the lead in the fifth minute and will go into the final feeling confident of claiming further silverware this year. Two points from right half forward Mark Toal helped the Orchard County to a 0-6 to 0-2 lead after 20 minutes, but Down had reduced the gap to three points, 0-7 to 0-4, at the interval.

Armagh surged five points clear after the restart, but inspired by Matthew Conlan, Down responded with four unanswered scores to leave just the minimum in it. But late points from Neil Duffy, Shea Gaffney and Conor Corvan pushed the winners clear once again.

"We're elated, the way I feel at the minute is just unbelievable. It's out of this world," Armagh minor boss Eamonn McKee said afterwards.
