Scene is set for McGeeney homecoming
March 11, 2010
Kieran McGeeney is expected to receive a warm welcome when he brings his Kildare charges back to his old stomping ground of Crossmaglen on Sunday.
Both Armagh and Kildare boast two wins out of three in Division 2 of the National Football League and another win would keep them firmly on course for promotion. This time last year, Armagh went to Newbridge and came away with a 1-12 to 1-10 victory, but that result will have little bearing this weekend owing to the large number of changes to both sides.
The Armagh team which edged out Laois last Saturday included just eight survivors from that tie, while Kildare only fielded six players against Donegal last Sunday that featured in the Newbridge clash 12 months ago.
The Lilywhites were mightily impressive in their win over Donegal, in the same way as Armagh were against Westmeath in round two. Paddy O'Rourke's side had to dig deep to see off Laois and if they can show the same battling qualities again in front of their home support, they should chalk up their third successive win, which would set them up nicely for the short trip to Newry the following weekend.
Throw-in at Crossmaglen is 2.30pm.
