Frank Fitzsimons fully expects Mike McGurn to continue as strength and conditioning coach to the Antrim footballers in 2016.

The news is a major boost after what was another disappointing season for the Saffrons. McGurn is a highly-regarded trainer, having worked with a host of top teams in GAA, rugby union, rugby league and soccer circles in the past.

"Mick's going to be there, yes. Obviously everything needs to be finalised. It'll probably be three or four weeks before we announce the whole (backroom) package," Fitzsimons told the Irish News.

Despite admitting that player apathy continues to be a problem in Antrim, Fitzsimons says he's delighted to be given a further two years as manager.

"To tell you the truth, I'm over the moon to remain as Antrim manager," he said of his reappointment on Monday night.

"You're never 100 per cent sure of these things. But it was very professional the way things were handled. I met with the board and everything seemed to be quite positive from both sides."

He added: "The year was difficult at times. To be honest, I don't think some of our lads want to play in Division 4. I don't want to start naming players, I just think some of them don't want to be there, but we still want to have the best 26 players available to play for Antrim."
