CJ McGourty has blamed the county board for his omission from the Antrim team that recorded a famous victory over Laois on Saturday.

McGourty, along with his brother Kieran and Conor Burke, were left out of the team after they had lined out for the St. Gall's hurlers the previous night. The highly-rated forward claims St. Gall's had tried to get the game moved, but the county board insisted it went ahead as planned.

"There was one club match last night which involved St. Gall's," McGourty explained to the Irish News.

"It left us in a difficult position. The county wouldn't call it off, we tried to get it off, the club secretary was liaising with the county manager and everyone, but the county just wouldn't call it off.

"It was a relegation battle and we had to play, simple as that. We had 17 players last night, and two of them were minors.

"We'll have to sit down during the week as a club and discuss how we've been treated. It was a very good result for Antrim today, but there are things that aren't right in the county.

"Asking boys to play two games in less than 15 hours is absolutely ridiculous. It put us three players in a bad position, it put the management in a bad position and these things will have to be looked into.

"Antrim won today and it's a good day for Antrim football, but for us three boys who played for our club it's extremely disappointing."
