Kernan expects 'Game for Anto' to be competitive

At the launch were Armagh's Aaron Findon and Monaghan's Rory Beggan with Anto Finnegan and Dublin manager Jim Gavin

Joe Kernan says fans attending Saturday night's 'Game for Anto' at Ravenhill between the Ulster All Stars and Dublin can expect a competitive match.

Kernan will take charge of the Ulster selection against a Dublin squad packed with All-Ireland winners. All proceeds from the historic fixture, which has been organised by former Antrim football captain Anto Finnegan, will go to the Motor Neurone Disease Association and deterMND.

"In fairness to Jim Gavin, anybody who has seen his Dublin teams know this is a chance for somebody to shine," the Armagh legend said in the Irish News.

"If they don't shine they could be off the squad. There's no such thing as a challenge match - it's 'go out and show me what you can do'. I'm expecting it to be competitive - 100 per cent.

"We are supporting a great night - the charity is number one. I'd like to think that people would leave the match and say 'yeah, that was very entertaining'.

"Our friends in rugby, I'm sure there'll be people there to support the night who'll be looking at a Gaelic match for the first time and we want to impress them too so they're saying 'yeah, this is a good sport'.

"We want it to be played the right way and have a competitive match."
