Slimmed-down Ulster SHC disappoints Quinn

May 10, 2012

Antrim keeper Damien Quinn
DD Quinn has expressed disappointment at the fact that just four teams will be competing in this year's Ulster SHC.

In recent years, all nine Ulster counties along with London took part, but this year 10-in-a-row champions Antrim, Armagh, Derry and Down will be the only competing counties.

"That's the way it is this year. It's maybe a bit unfair on them that we are the only (Ulster) team involved in the Leinster championship as well," the Antrim goalkeeper said at this week's launch of the Leinster championships.

"Hurling is a game that we have to keep trying to keep going as best we can in all counties. They feel that it's better for us and that we are better equipped to come down and play here in the Leinster championships.

"It's unfortunate that Ulster hurling isn't as strong but, in the Ulster competition, some of the so-called weaker counties can try and play in it and see how they get on. Obviously, they all want to beat Antrim and they see Antrim as the top team in Ulster."
