Antrim clubs facing expulsion
August 12, 2010
A number of clubs in Antrim are facing the threat of suspension from all county board competitions for failing to pay their annual subscriptions to the GAA Players' Injury Scheme.
The threat was issued via the Antrim county board's website ahead of yesterday's deadline for receipt of payment. It's believed that up to 10 clubs had previously failed to make their payments which were due on February 15.
Antrim secretary Frankie Quinn said: "The clubs will be the first to know (if they are to be suspended) and they won't know through the Irish News.
"I am not saying we have or have not contacted the clubs. It's a matter between the clubs and the Antrim county board."
The cost of the levy, which is now paid directly to Croke Park, is EUR1,000 per adult team for men's football and hurling teams. Ladies football and camogie teams pay per player rather than per team.
