Ulster club JFC: Teresa's hold on

10 November 2009

St Teresa's (Antrim) 1-7
Butlersbridge (Cavan) 0-8

Antrim champions St Teresa's progressed through to the semi-finals of this year's Ulster club junior football championship at the expense of Butlersbridge Sunday afternoon at Casement Park, Belfast.

After a promising start, Teresa's were made hold off a late rally from the Cavan side and had the game's only goal, coming from Patrick Dugan eight minutes into the restart, to thank for their victory in the end.

The hosts took in a 0-5 to 0-2 lead at the interval, which was cut down to two points by Fergal Flanagan soon after the restart, but it was still Teresa's that looked to carry the better scoring threat.

On 38 minutes Anton Taylor pierced the Butlersbridge rearguard to force a brilliant double save off 'keeper Keith Gumley, but when Dugan came racing in the full-forward made no mistake in crashing the ball into the net.

Paul McGoldrick added on a point for the Saints afterwards and they would go scoreless for the remaining 16 minutes, as Michael Fitzpatrick, Noel McPhilips and Eamon Diver lashed over points to try and salvage something for the visitors, but they finished two short in the end.
