McGourty rules out Antrim return
November 26, 2008
Kevin McGourty has declined an invitation from new Antrim football manager Liam Bradley to rejoin the county squad.
The St. Gall's forward, who was dropped off the panel by former boss Jody Gormley last February, has told Bradley that he cannot commit to the county set-up in 2009.
Bradley said: "I'm obviously disappointed because I wanted to have all the best players in Antrim involved, but I completely respect his decision.
"There's a lot of pressure on young people with regards their careers, particularly the way things are these days, and I completely understand."
The Derry native revealed that he has been forced to cancel a trial scheduled for tonight because of the new directive from Croke Park banning all inter-county activity during November and December.
"Ideally, I would love to have more time and more trial games but, as for the guys who were in the panel last year, I think I know enough about them and, as for the new trialists, I think we've seen enough and there will be at least 12 new faces on the panel for the McKenna Cup."
