GAA seek meeting with Minister
October 22, 2008
Croke Park officials have requested a meeting with the Minister for Education and Science Batt O'Keeffe about the future development of Gaelic Games in schools.
The GAA is fearful that the cuts announced in last week's Budget will "negatively impact on the playing of GAA post-primary school competitions."
The Minister has withdrawn substitute cover for teachers on official school business - which includes sports trips - at second level from January. The move could cause chaos to a number of sports but particularly the GAA.
GAA bosses last night revealed that had contacted the Minister to express their concerns.
"The Association is concerned that the implementation of the changes will greatly curtail the development of Gaelic games in second-level schools and will negatively impact on the playing of post-primary competitions," a GAA spokesman said.
