Yesterday was a busy but fruitful day for former Westmeath star Alan Mangan.
The 2004 Leinster SFC winner started it by scoring 0-10 (0-5 from play) for his beloved St. Malachy's as they came from six points down with 15 minutes to go to draw 0-15 to 1-12 with Milltownpass in Rosemount and earn a place in the Westmeath IFC quarter-finals.
And last evening at TEG Cusack Park, 'Buddah' managed Tyrrellspass to a 0-13 to 0-9 SFC victory over Mullingar Shamrocks to secure the Tidy Town's semi-final place. The defeat not only elimated the once-mighty Shamrocks from the championship, but also relegated them to the weaker section of the SFC (Group 2) for next season.
Meanwhile, Ballinagore are expected to appeal the bizarre circumstances which led to their exit from the IFC on Saturday evening. They refused to field against Bunbrosna after the game was rescheduled at short notice. In spite of this, the ball was thrown in and Bunbrosna scored a goal, which was immediately followed by the sound of the referee's final whistle.
