Joe Bergin Scores 0-16 - Highest personal tally in one game?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

Just thought I'd raise this topic after reading the report on the Offaly vs D.I.T Walsh shield game.. I am aware that the game went to extra-time but even so the 16 point return from Joe Bergin was nothing short of sensational with 7 points coming from play.. This must surely be up there with the all time highest tally in a single game!

Sounds impressive to me. Is he a hurler or a footballer?

I can remember Nicky English scoring 2-12 in an All Ireland Final against Antrim. Hard to beat that feat I reckon.

Mick O' Dwyer once scored 2-11 in a league match in the late 60s...........against Tipperary I think.

Nothing beats Matt Connor's 2-9 against Kerry in the 1980 All-Ireland Semi-Final though, made all the greater as it was against the greatest team of all time..............what a player, makes me want to go on YouTube and admire his skills.

Declan D'Arcy scored 2-13 for Leitrim against London back in 1997 if my memory serves me right - can't be too many footballers out there who have achieved that regardless of the opposition's standard.

Sure it's a bad day at the office for a free-taking hurler that doesn't score close to that.

Galway fans will know if this is true or not. Did Joe Canning not get close to 0-20 in a hurling match for LIT one time?

Nicky Horan scored 2-15 for the meath hurlers against Kildare in 2002

I assume that is Joe Bergin the Offaly hurler not the Galway footballer? I know - that's a bad joke!

ya joe canning has come up with some huge totals.he got 2-12 against cork in his 3rd game at senior level and 1-16 in fitz cup final 2008.
king henry has scored 2-11 a few times down through the years and eoin kelly of tipp and waterford have both beaten that total.

Highest i can think of I maybe was it 2002/2003 didn't Rory Gallagher from Fermanagh score something like 3-8 or 3-9 against Monaghan, in an Ulster champ game. Ian Ryan from Limerick got 3-7 v Meath in that mad game about 3 or 4 years ago in qualifiers too.

In hurling, I'd say Pat Horgans 3-11 v Laois in last years qualifiers has to be well up there. There was 1 goals scored so it was a good day to break some records!

All my ones are from championship. There cud well be others who scored more in Div 4 league games v Kilkenny that prob hold record.

Nicky Rackard scored 7-7 against Antrim in an All Ireland semi final back in the 50s.
But in modern times, it's Nicky Horan's 2-15 against Kildare.

Dotsy O'Callaghan scored 3 - 10 in a Dublin club game. Only mention that to remind the person who was allegedly 'marking him' that day :-)

Are these mentions of scores in underage/schools games serious?
