Sixmilebridge crowned U21 hurling champions
April 26, 2011
Sixmilebridge were crowed county U21 hurling champions after they defeated near neighbours Cratloe in the final last Thursday. The new champions held the upper hand after a closely fought first half with Declan Morey's goal proving to be the difference between the sides at the break, 1-4 to 0-5. Cratloe hit the ground running on the resumption and went ahead when Cathal McInerney hit to the net. Unfortunately this was as good as it got for the Cratloe men as Sixmilebridge rallied with goals from county minor Jamie Shanahan and Shane Golden along with Shanahan's second goal on the brink of full time to leave them 4-14 to 1-10 victors. County board chairman Michael O'Neill presented Sixmilebridge captain Shane Golden with the cup after the game amid great scenes of celebration.
