Molumphy released for Thurles duty
Waterford's hopes of beating Offaly in Saturday's All-Ireland hurling qualifier have been boosted by the news that All-Star forward Stephen Molumphy will be available for the Thurles clash.
New manager Davy Fitzgerald was of the understanding that the Ballyduff Upper clubman would be ruled out because of his participation in an army survival course over the weekend. But Defence Forces officials have allowed him to finish the course a day early in order to free him up for the meeting with the Faithful County.
Molumphy isn't expected to start the game, but could make an appearance from the subs' bench at some stage. His involvement with Waterford this year has been severely curtailed due to the fact that he spent a number of months in Germany on army duty, while he has done very little training since the qualifier win over Antrim a few weeks ago.
Fitzgerald is expected to welcome back Tony Browne and Seamus Prendergast from injury for Saturday's do-or-die clash, but defender Aidan Kearney is definitely ruled out after having his appendix removed recently.
