GALTEE GAELS INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP The re-fixture of our 3rd round Intermediate Championship was played last Friday in Dromcollogher against Gerald Griffens. This match was hugely important to both teams as neither of us had a win under our belts in the championship. Another loss and it would be a relegation battle for the rest of the year. We played against the wind in the first half and we were under pressure from a Gerald Griffen team who were contesting strongly for every ball. We were 3 points to 1 down when an Andy Breedy goal from an excellent Johnny Cleary pass sparked us into life. A change in defence for us helped to snuff out their dangerous corner forward and we played well for the rest of the first half going in 1-3 to 4 points in front. We had the advantage of the wind in the second half and at one stage we were leading by 5 points with our points coming from Derek Gallahue, Eddie Gorman, Tom Noonan & Tom Mahony. We seemed to panic a bit in the final quarter of the half though and we were hanging on at the final whistle for a 1 point win. Hopefully this is a win that will help us regain our confidence for the rest of the year. Our next game is against Na Piarsigh in the 2nd week of August and this is another do or die game. Team on the day was: Mike Jones, Patrick Cleary, Ken Lane, Sean Lane, Sean O' Donavan, Niall Mahony, Chris Gallahue, Richie Childs, Andy Breedy, Eddie Gorman, Johnny Cleary, Derek Gallahue, Conor Moriarty, Tom Noonan, Tom Mahony. Subs: Chris Noonan for Patrick Cleary, Tommy Dwyer for Conor Moriarty, Richie Fitz for Chris Noonan, John Quane for Johnny Cleary. JUNIOR B CHAMPIONSHIP Last Thursday Evening our Junior B team played Camogue Rovers in the first round of the Junior B championship. This was a hugely enjoyable game and a game that we could have won against a strong Camogue Rovers team. Camogue Rovers started the better and they had 2 points on the board before a fine point by Holly opened the Gaels account. This was followed by a goal for Gaels soon after when Donnacha had an easy finish after an unselfish pass by Brian Mullins. Timmy added a point before half time to leave the half time score 1-03 to 4 points in our favour. Camogue Rovers began to re-assert themselves in the second half and the kicked 4 points to our 1. We had a great chance to win the game near the end but unfortunately the goal was disallowed. Final Score 1-04 to 0-08. Next step for the Junior B's is the back-door and this is knock-out. Team: PJ Maloney, Chris Mullins, Brendan Childs, Dennis O Dwyer, Pa Casey, Rob Breedy, Tommy Fitz, Timmy Breedy, Johnny Mahoney, Brian Mullins, Richie Fitz, Tommy O' Dwyer, Holly, Donnacha O Halloran, Paul Walsh. Subs used: Alan Condon, Keith Mahoney, TJ.
