An Tóchar GAA notes

July 14, 2008
Last Saturday was the highlight of the year for ten of our under eight boys who got the opportunity to play in Croke Park for their participation in the 'Play & Stay Go-Games' blitz.  These great little footballers rose to the occasion and played some great football on the big stage.  Managers John and Shay were equally excited and all returned home with fond memories to treasure.  The club are holding their annual Club 500/1 Draw with first prize of .10,000 plus six other cash prizes.  Tickets cost .70 and can be purchased from Phil at 2818328, John at 2818410 or Paul at 2818398.  This is the main fundraiser for the year which helps maintain the complex so we would urge you to please support.  Our under 12 team had a convincing win against Tinahealy last Monday 7th July with a score line of  7-12 to 1-03. Some very good football was played. This team is improving every week and it is great to see the support. Scorers ; Liam Gaffney 2-01 , Shane Healy 1-03 , Conor Byrne 2 goals , Tiernan Kavanagh & Cian Brady 1 goal each, Mark Miley 4 pts, Eamonn Wolohan 2 pts, Jamie Sally & Brian Gallagher 1 point each.  This team will be against Newtown at home on Monday 21st July.  The under 14s had a great competitive match against Stratford last Wednesday.  Our side were behind by 7pts at the break and after team talk they came out in the second half and played some of their best football of the season and finished up winning by two points.  Their next match is 23rd July against Newtown at home.  The under 16s are in division 1 league and are finding the going tough along with missing several players due to holidays.  We were beaten by St Pats by 1-2 and we also lost to Luke O Tooles by 1-9.  This team are away to Arklow GB on Monday 21st July. The under 18s got off to a great start with a win over Avondale.  Final score was 4-12 to 1-8.  Next match is 23rd July at home against Rathnew.  We wish all these teams well in their matches. The Junior A team drew to Knocknanna with a score of 1-8 to 0-11 last Sunday.  Next Saturday 19th this team are away to Bray Emmets at 4:30pm.  Mixed fortunes with the senior team in the league lately with a good win over Ballymanus but a poor loss to St Pats. Recent winners in the Club lotto include Katie Dwane, P Corbett and Bobby &Dale.  This weeks jackpot is worth .9,400, well worth winning.
