Owen Roes Launch Grand Development Draw

June 25, 2008

Development at the Owen Roes club
Anyone passing the home pitch of Owen Roe's GAC can't help but notice the impressive redevelopment work that is currently underway there. The club are currently in the process of relying their current surface, and building a brand new training pitch adjacent to this. When all is complete the club will have two sand carpet style pitches fit for the next generation of young gaels in the parish. The development of the club's facilities in Glenmornan started back 22 years ago with the relocation of the Club to the current grounds at Pairc and Ghleanna. This was supplemented in 1998 with the opening of the clubrooms, dressing rooms and social centre. Developments like this don't come without much hard work, and financial investment. Therefore in order to assist fund the project the Club launched a major development draw last week. With the official launch in Healy Park prior to the Tyrone Down game, last Friday's launch was to the club's members. With a first prize of a staggering £100,000 the draw has created somewhat of a buzz in the parish, and the plan is now to extend this ripple throughout Tyrone and beyond. Sarah-Jane Kelly, now in her second term as chairperson, explains 'It's a very busy time for the club. However it's also a very exciting time. As you say the draw was only launched last week, and it appears to be creating quite a buzz with demand for tickets coming from America, Australia and even Down!' 'The format is simple really' added Sarah-Jane, 'every month we are giving away three monthly prizes of £1000, £300 and £200 over a period of 10 months. At the end of this we will be having our final draw. Here anyone that purchased a ticket has an opportunity to win our first prize of £100,000! In addition there will also be prizes of £20,000, £10,000 and 5 prizes of £1,000. All this for a monthly subscription of £20 over a ten-month period. This can be paid weekly, monthly or via a simple direct debit payment plan.' Owen Roes are currently competing in the third tier of the Tyrone ACL. In total they have 12 teams out from under 8 through to adult levels, and provide Gaelic games for both males and females alike. Sarah-Jane added 'we currently have around 200 youth members both male and female. When you consider our two adult teams, and the charity games that take place on the pitch it adds up to a lot of traffic for one pitch to handle. That's why this second pitch is crucial to the future of Gaelic games in our parish.' With interest high and the first draw due to take place in the early autumn anyone interested is encouraged to purchase a ticket as soon as possible. Tickets can be purchased from any club member. On a final note Sarah-Jane concluded, 'this draw will produce plenty of winners, and some excitement. However we hope in addition to this that the real winners will be the children of the parish whose future is tangibly linked to this development, and I'd like to thank all those who will buy and sell these tickets for their help in that regard.'
