Gilligan sees room for improvement

June 22, 2008
Niall Gilligan believes Clare will need to step up another notch on their barnstorming performance against Waterford if they are to maintain their winning ways against Limerick this afternoon. The Banner County registered a nine-point victory over the reigning champions in the first round, but veteran attacker Gilligan is expecting a much tougher test from last year's beaten All-Ireland finalists in today's Munster SHC semi-final at Semple Stadium. "Obviously, we were delighted to get the win over Waterford," he said. "But at the same time we have to keep things in perspective, as Waterford were missing four of their best players, and that undoubtedly had a big effect on their performance. "Ken McGrath, Eoin Murphy, Eoin Kelly and Paul Flynn are all All-Stars, and no team, no matter how strong their subs bench is, could afford to do without players of their calibre. "So we feel that we will have to step it up another notch if we are to get the better of Limerick on Sunday."
