McCulla Transport signs GAA sponsorship deal
August 10, 2007
McCulla Transport from the predominantly Protestant town of Lisburn has signed an innovative sponsorship deal with a GAA club from the nationalist Falls Road in Belfast, which shows that sectarian barriers are tumbling.
The sponsorship between last year's All-Ireland club football finalists St Gall's and transport and storage specialists McCulla Ireland was concluded recently.
It's not so long since any connection between a business from the Protestant tradition and the GAA would have been regarded as unthinkable.
Under the three-year £30,000 deal, all St Galls' players will wear the McCulla logo on their jerseys and the company will get tickets for big matches at Croke Park.
McCulla Transport, which has numerous business links with the Republic says the deal is all about getting its name out in front of new customers.
