No floodlights sees All-Ireland Masters semi-final go to replay

No floodlights meant a penalty shootout couldn't be played at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence

Sligo and Donegal must meet again for a place in the All-Ireland Masters football final after last night’s semi-final in Scarden finished all square (1-11 to 0-14) at the end of extra time.

With no floodlighting available at the Sligo GAA Centre of Excellence, daylight started to become an issue at the end of full-time as former Sligo player Donnacha Gallagher kicked the equaliser for Donegal to force extra time.

It was decided by match officials that the teams would play two three-minute periods to try and determine a winner on the day, with Sligo moving in front by a point and then Gallagher tying up the derby again ahead of the final whistle.

With the pitch practically in total darkness by that stage, the decision was taken not to have the game go to a penalty shootout and go to a replay instead.

No date has yet been set for the next meeting between the teams, with holders Tyrone and Dublin scheduled to play in the other semi-final tomorrow (Saturday) in Kingspan Breffni, Cavan at 2pm.
