O'Dwyer rescues Kilmurry

Kilmurry-Ibrickane...0-9 Stradbally......................0-9 A late point from substitute Paul O'Dwyer earned Kilmurry-Ibrickane a draw with Stradbally in an exciting Munster club football final at Thurles on Sunday, December 5. Stradbally looked set to pay for their poor finishing in the first half when they trailed by 0-3 to 0-8 four minutes into the second half. But the Waterford champions refused to throw in the towel and fired over six unanswered points to overtake their Clare counterparts with the finishing line in sight. However, O'Dwyer's last gasp equalizer ensured a replay that has been fixed for next Sunday in Kilmallock. With the Stradbally forwards having an apparent off-day (they hit 10 first half wides and missed a series of goal chances), Kilmurry took advantage to lead by 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval. Much of the damage was inflicted by Michael O'Dwyer and Johnny Daly while John O'Connor, Declan Callinan, Enda Coughlan and Martin Cahill showed up well further out the field. When O'Dwyer, Daly and Aongus Corry posted quick points on the restart, Stradbally looked to be in trouble, but it was then that county hurler Michael Walsh showed his class to kickstart the Waterford side's revival. Niall Curran brought them level before Ger Power edged them in front. However, O'Dwyer halted the Kilmurry slide with his equalizer.
