Wexford juniors look good

May 31, 2004
Dublin travelled to Wexford in the hope of victory in the Leinster junior camogie championship but a determined Slaney side had other ideas as they sent the Dubs packing 2-13 to 1-10 in the opening round of the Leinster championship. Wexford's opponents in the next round on June 27th will be Kilkenny. Two goals from Evelyn Quigley, daughter of former Wexford winning captain Dan just before the half time proved decisive as Wexford led 2-6 to Dublin's 0-7. Five Wexford players got their name on the score board while only three could manage that feat for the Dubs. Wexford's ability to score 0-7 from play was important as Dublin only managed 0-3 from play with Ciara Lucey sending over 0-7 from the placed ball in all. A strong Wexford defence where Catherine O'Loughlin was in top shape never gave the Dubs too much room. While Ciara Lucey crashed a tenth minute penalty to the goal it brought Dublin back in but with the accuracy of Greta Heffernan from the placed ball, who scored a total of 0-6 from frees it was never going to be easy for Dublin who were desperately seeking at least a first round championship victory in centenary year. Scorers Wexford 2-13, E Quigley 2-1, G Heffernan 0-6 (F), L Codd 0-4, C Murphy, Ú Leacy 0-1 each. Dublin 1-10; C Lucey 1- 7, G Mc Cluskey 0-2, S Treacy 0-1.
