A link to the last Cavan team to win the All-Ireland SFC championship in 1952 has been broken with the passing of Seamus Morris.

The Arva native, who was 91 years of age, lined out between the posts when neighbours Meath were defeated on a scoreline of 0-9 to 0-5 in a replay.

Announcing the news of his sad passing, a statement from Cavan County Board reads: "On behalf of Coiste Chontae an Chabhain, Chairman, Officers, players and clubs, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the family of Seamus Morris who died earlier today.

"Seamus was a wonderful ambassador for Gaelic Games not only in Cavan but indeed throughout the country. A native of Arva he was renowned as one of the top goalkeepers in the country during his playing days.

"During his illustrious inter county playing career he won many honors including 1 All Ireland title, 1 National League title, 5 Ulster Championship titles, 1 Railway Cup and 4 McKenna Cups. He was a member of the last Cavan team to capture the All Ireland in 1952.

"Seamus was also a member of the Cavan minor management team which won the Ulster Championship in 1974.

"Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dhilis."
