Barry Moran has been cleared to play for Castlebar Mitchels in their All-Ireland club SFC semi-final against Dr Crokes.

The Mayo midfielder was issued with a straight red card for a high tackle on opponent Karol Mannion during Castlebar's controversial Connacht final victory over reigning All-Ireland champions St. Brigid's last month. But his appeal to the Connacht Council has been successful, meaning he will be able to line out against the Kerry and Munster champions in the New Year.

Referee Marty Duffy dismissed three St. Brigid's players in the same game. Frankie Dolan, who wasn't one of those to be sent off, is facing a 48-week ban for allegedly assaulting the fourth official after the game.

On twitter there was a campaign running to get the proposed suspension overturned using the hastag #freethebird. Moran is known locally as 'Bird'.
