Meaney: Central Council (and Wexford) made a mistake

"Central Council was wrong to snub Carlow and Westmeath"
Michael Meaney insists Central Council was wrong to snub Carlow and Westmeath in determining the 2014 NHL format.

The Carlow chairman has also criticised Wexford for voting against Carlow's inclusion in the top flight.

The Barrowsiders had some measure of revenge on Sunday when Mount Leinster Rangers beat Oulart in the Leinster club hurling final but the damage has been done at intercounty level:

"Wexford have to do what they think is right [but] we were disappointed," Meaney is quoted in The Irish Examiner. "They promised us the vote and then you see manager Liam Dunne coming out the week after the vote saying that it should have been the other way.

"The man with the vote on the day didn't think like that. But we have to live with it and they have to live with it. That's the way it is.

"We did all of our shouting before the vote. We put a good bit on the papers and on the news, a few words out there.

"Ourselves and Westmeath lobbied hard but counties voted and we have to get on with it ... there's no point belly-aching about it.

"We think they made a mistake and that the counties that voted against us made a mistake. I think that counties like Carlow and Westmeath, no matter what you do or how hard you try, you never get taken seriously."
