Vinny's still scoring goals

Vinny Murphy of Dublin and Kerry's Tom O'Sullivan clash during the 2001 All Ireland quarter final
Former Hill 16 favourite Vinny Murphy found the net for St. Monica's in last night's Dublin JFC 'A' final at Parnell Park, but couldn't prevent the Edenmore men from succumbing to a surprise defeat to Cuala.
Lining out at full forward, the 43-year-old player/manager raised a green flag with four minutes remaining, but it came too late as Division 6 outfit Cuala shocked their Division 3 opponents on a 2-14 to 1-12 scoreline. It was a heart-breaking defeat for St. Monica's who brought great colour and support to the Donnycarney venue in the expectation of winning their first junior championship since 1987.
An All-Ireland winner with the Dubs in 1995 and an All-Star recipient in 1992, Murphy famously moved to Kerry in the late 1990s to take up a coaching job with the Kerins O'Rahilly's club in Tralee. He spent three years on the Strand Road - during which he played hurling for Kerry - before returning to play for the Dubs against the Kingdom in the 2001 All-Ireland quarter-final, which is best remembered for Maurice Fitzgerald's incredible point from a sideline kick that forced a replay, which Kerry won.
Wonder who Vinny will be shouting for today?!
