Leinster U21HC: Wexford burst Carlow bubble

June 26, 2013

Eoin Conroy, Wexford, in action against Daryl Roberts, Carlow.
Wexford ended Carlow's Leinster U21 dream with a 1-12 to 0-9 victory at Dr Cullen Park.

Carlow gave as good as they got for most of the match but the winners kicked for home in the final quarter - ironically, after being reduced to 14 men.

It was 0-2 apiece after ten minutes and the Barrowsiders showed quickly that their victory over Dublin was no flash in the pan as they went on to take a 0-6 to 0-5 lead at half time, with Marty Kavanagh proving deadly from frees.

The Model men had moved ahead by the end of the third quarter, 0-9 to 0-8, but it looked like the tide might then turn against them when Conor Goff got his marching orders for a second yellow.

Instead, the visitors found the net through Ian Byrne and they still led by four points, 1-10 to 0-9, with six minutes left.

The 14 men added two more points to seal their passage to the provincial final, where they'll meet Kilkenny on July 10th.
